Getting work in times of recession

You can not open a newspaper or news to include at the moment without hearing about the economic downturn, the whole Western world of suffering. Hardly any sector of immunity, and many companies are making layoffs to stay afloat. Worst of all this is that companies are often slow to recruit, but also have many more people competing for fewer jobs.
